At 7 AM on November 30, 2012, a freight train traveling through Paulsboro, New Jersey, derailed and overturned on a bridge over Mantua Creek, spilling more than 23,000 gallons of highly toxic vinyl chloride into the air as vapor. Over the following days, thousands of Paulsboro residents complained of various symptoms and physical complaints.
